Anatomy of a Transmission: Oil Flow in the Pump-PR-Converter-Cooler Lube Circuits
Gregg Nader
Vehicles with Jatco/Nissan JF506E and VW/Audi 09A transmissions may exhibit a host of TCC apply/release problems and reduced cooler/lube flow. These complaints can often be traced to significant wear of the TCC control valve train. The symptoms vary in action and severity depending on the extent and location of the wear. Wear allows hydraulic fluid under pressure to escape either to the sump or adjacent circuits. The missing, reduced or increased fluid flow and pressure negatively effects the timing and quality of the lockup clutch apply and release action.
Sonnax oversized TCC control valve kit 122892-16K restores hydraulic integrity resulting in a properly positioned control valve permitting appropriate shift timing and quality.

Vacuum testing at the port(s) indicated fails to hold the recommended minimum in-Hg, or if wear is visually detected.
